Frequently Asked Questions About Junior Achievement on the Eastern Shore
We need YOU to teach the youth how to succeed in life through Junior Achievement's programs. JA teaches financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship to grades K-12 in all six counties here on the shore. With you as their mentor, students will see how their school work relates to the real world, and how what they learn in school leads to their future success. JA brings volunteers from diverse backgrounds into the classroom.
You will be surprised at how easy and rewarding your volunteer experience is! Each of the sessions contains an interactive activity. The classroom teacher provides the support and discipline; Junior Achievement provides training, lesson plans and the engaging classroom materials. All you need is your enthusiasm!
How can you help?
A Junior Achievement class has been scheduled for the classroom, but unfortunately the demand for JA classes is much greater than the supply of volunteers. Would you be willing to come to the classroom and share this JA program with the kids? OR do you know someone who would? It is very easy to be a volunteer as the lesson plans are already created. We give you all the materials and training you need!
What does it involve?
Being a JA volunteer is easy. All you have to do is utilize FUN and EASY materials that JA provides for you. Lessons are already planned, so no homework or research is needed. Just prepare by reviewing materials before you go into the classroom. You will make 5 to 8 visits (depending on the grade and program selected). During these visits you will spend about 5-15 minutes talking to students about your career before leading them in a fun, hands-on, age appropriate activity. Total classroom time? 30-45 minutes each visit. JA will give you a short training session to get you started. No skills are needed, just a desire to make a difference.
What else can I do to help?
Because our programs are completely free to the schools you can make a donation to our non-profit organization to help provide materials for the students. Any donation amount is always appreciated, especially through these difficult times. Because we do not any funding from the government, we rely solely on the generosity of local businesses and individuals. As a 501(c)3 your donation is completely tax deductible.
WE TRAIN YOU, WE GIVE YOU ALL THE MATERIALS and TEACHERS ARE FLEXIBLE AROUND YOUR SCHEDULE....
so what are you waiting for?
