JA BIZTOWN
JA Biztown combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town. This popular learning experience allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote. Students are able to connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world.

JA Biztown combines in-classroom learning with a day-long visit to our JA City Center. This popular learning experience allows 4-6th graders, the opportunity to explore career paths and discover their passions as they operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote! This program is designed to spark a connection between what students learn in school and discoveries in the real world. JA Biztown, a JA Capstone program, is available for classroom-based, self-guided, or remote classroom implementation. Prior to entering the physical simulation, students engage in 12 teacher-led sessions in preparation to enter the simulated community where they will have the opportunity to engage in this one of a kind hands-on learning experience.
Following participation in the learning experience, students will be able to:
Discuss the roles they play as citizens, workers, and consumers in their community and relate those roles to the free enterprise system.
Discuss the importance of citizen rights and responsibilities in a community.
Demonstrate a basic understanding of the free enterprise system.
Build money management skills through a practical knowledge of economic concepts and banking practices.
Develop an understanding of basic business practices and responsibilities.
Display the soft skills necessary for successful participation in the world of work.
JA Learning Experiences support national and state standards in reading, mathematics, social studies, and work and career readiness. THE PERDUE HENSON JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT CENTER
A SPACE BUILT FOR SUCCESS
Located in Salisbury, Maryland, the Perdue Henson Junior Achievement Center is an immersive learning center used for student programming, educational simulations, and available for rentals year-round. Our center is a multi-functional property, built with the intention of our student's success in mind, this one of a kind facility offers a space where both kids and adults can learn and grow.
VOLUNTEER AT BIZTOWN
Once students enter our immersive JA City Center, Biztown programming becomes primarily volunteer based. We rely on the support of helping hands in our community to bring JA Biztown to life. Biztown volunteers have the opportunity to work directly with students as they navigate through their job position, the work day, and create their own sales pitch.
"When I moved here two years ago, I was looking for ways to get involved in the community. Being a former educator, any programs that involved working with kids was at the top of my list. Then I was introduced to the Perdue Henson JA Center and I was amazed! Not only is the facility itself absolutely beautiful, the programs they provide are so beneficial to introduce our students to financial literacy, work and career readiness as well as entrepreneurship. From the first time I volunteered, I was hooked on JAES and will forever be a supporter!"
